Brazilian Portuguese Language Support
July 07, 2009, 06:39:43 pm
I am helping a Brazilian-based nonprofit to decide on a CRM system - from a proprietary solution to open source to Software as a Service (SaaS). Language is a huge factor as the majority of the staff speaks only Portuguese. Most of the CRM systems that I have researched are focused on US-based nonprofits with minimal support for Brazilian Portuguese. Is there a CRM system out there that is web-based, low cost, and completely customizable to Portuguese including the UI and online/standard support?

One option is Salesforce.com through their foundation, www.salesforcefoundation.org and CiviCRM - however, the standard/online support and online community seems to be mostly in English. The UI seems to be customizable in Portuguese but would like some feedback as to how easy this is for other nonprofits who have used any CRM system in another language besides English (preferably Portuguese).

Also, I am looking for any nonprofits that provide free CRM implementation/customization services that speak Portuguese. I have found Linefeed.org as one potential option. Any help is appreciated - thanks!

As for the support, I’m not sure there’s anyone offering CiviCRM support in (Brazilian) Portuguese, but maybe asking on the support forum and/or professional services could help.

As for the UI, Brazilian Portuguese is the sixth most complete CiviCRM translation (out of thirty-something), which means it’s fairly complete. CiviCRM localisation is a volunteer operation, so if there’s anything lacking in the UI’s translation, you’re more than welcome to help. :)
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

I'm starting using CiviCRM and I think it's very good until now! So I think I can collaborate with brazilian portuguese translation if it isn't already finished.

Just found some Brazilian Portuguese translations in civcrm-modules.po are not correct. In fact, for several Englisj sentences, the Portuguese text is the translation of some other English sentence. So, it seems the translation has been somehow messed up.

I am trying help to fix that, also to contribute to complete the translation task.

I have almost no experience with poEdit, so I have two questions:
1. How are the several civicrm*.po files combined in the single civicrm.mo file ?
2. If I send the *.po files I edit offline, can someone merge the changes in the code base ?

Thanks
