Does anyone know if changes that are made to the users in CiviCRM are recorded anywhere other than the Change Log. I really could do with some mechanism that follows all changes, including the details of what has been changed, and it doesn't seem that this is readily available with CiviCRM, but is there a log file which carries this information, or does anyone know if MySQL would store this information either?

Change logging is pretty limited in CiviCRM so far. Changes to contacts and few other objects are recorded in civicrm_log - but only who, when and what record. The details of what changed (before and after) are not logged. CiviCase does revisioning on all Activity records - which means that you can see all past versions of an activity (and how created / edited them).

We think that implementing (more) complete logging is a non-trivial project. If you are interesting in working on / sponsoring this - contact us on IRC.
