CiviEvent, PayPal, and registering additional people under one fee

Hello all!  I would like to start out by saying that CiviCRM is great!  I am using it for an upcoming Walk hosted by a non-profit I volunteer with. I volunteer maintaining their web sites.

Anyway, here's the current issue I'm having with CiviEvent:

I have CiviEvent set up to allow people to register for the Walk. There are different registration fees depending on if you are an individual Walker, a Family/Team, and Open Door.  The Family/Team fee allows up to 5 additional members to be added for one price. To do this they click the "Register additional people for this event" button and enter their information. As I said, that fee covers the additional people. The only way I could see to make this work was to add a fee of "$0.00". When a registrant enters the additional information they click on the "$0.00" radio button so they are not charged for them. Since the Event Fee(s) section is mandatory to fill out I couldn't think of any other way to do it.

Here's the problem. When the last person is added and they click Continue they are never sent to PayPal for processing. CiviEvent only sees the "$0.00" amount and thinks the event is free instead of the $35.00 for Family/Team registration. The "Free" members get registered, but the original registrant shows up as "Pending".

To test this I changed the "$0.00" to "$0.01" and was sent to PayPal. CiviEvent saw this correctly and would have charged me "$35.01" for the Family/Team fee plus one additional.

If there's another way to add additional members under one fee please let me know! The event is coming up soon and I'd like to get this working.
