Getting name and email name for mail list

What tools in CIVICRM should I be using to allow a visitor to provide me with his name and email address only for our email mailing programs.  I would like to have a block on my website that says---- "Signup for Newsletters".  This person would not be a paying member of the organization.

I think I have set up a new profile---gone to Configure Online Contribution Pages----and set a new contribution item called

Join Our Email LIst. 

It just simply asks---  name and email address and zip.  There is no contribution involved.   When I try and view it it goes to a new blank page with a URL line in yellow. 

I can see that their is a function that allows me to manually put someone on the email list. 

I can't seem to figure out how to simply ask a visitor to join the list. 

Is this a Drupal issue or a Civicrm issue.

You should be using a Profile form rather than an Online Contribution page for a Mailing List signup. The Administer Profile documentation should provide the info you need to create and "link" to this form.
