Uploading CiviCRM files - how do get in one pass
July 09, 2009, 07:12:47 pm
I just thought I'd ask and this does not have to do with any particular version, however, I am installing v 2.2.7.   I have a Comcast cable internet connection and am using CuteFTP Pro.  It is quite the task to get the CiviCRM files uploaded.  It never works going for the whole shot and I always have to upload groups of folder sections.  Many times then having to go back and find issues where some files did not upload and I have to pick up the stragglers.

My question is - do other people have this issue or is there a better way to upload the CiviCRM files?

Thanks - Dave

any specific reason why you dont ftp the tarball and untar it on the server?

if the server does not allow you to do so, you might consider switching to a better host :) Try civiserver.com :)

Thanks - I wondered if that was what people were doing.   I'll check what the servers allow.  I've probably won in raffles more copies of Linux distributions that times I've issued Linux commands.

I assume the process involved having shell access and we might have this on our test server.  I also found this item while searching around on another of my hosting accounts - all of my hosting accounts have cpanel:

You can make it even simpler (for those who aren't familiar with SSH) and just use the File Manager in cPanel. It gives you a sort of pseudo Windows Explorer GUI interface, within which you can select the archive and expand it without needing to know any SSH commands.

Yep - works just fine for Drupal and for CiviCRM - that will save a days work for each install <sigh>  Of course this means that we may have to reconsider our upgrade strategy from v 1.9 to 2.2 or 2.3.  Before I could not see us being able to do all the upgrades with a day for each with our production server.  Now, maybe.....

Thanks - love these forums !
