In the installation instructions at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Automated+Installer+for+Drupal, it is stated that "Under Linux, the optional CiviMail component requires PHP 5.X with SOAP and DOM extensions, MySQL 4.1.X, Postfix 2.2 (a mailer), and Perl 5.8.X."

My question is whether the MySQL 4.1.X version is an absolute requirement, or whether it can be a later version (in particular, MySQL 5)?

The problem is that it is extremely difficult to install the right versions of the client software that goes together with MySQL 4.1, which is blocking completion of the installation. I would hope that CiviMail could also be used with MySQL 5.
