Authenticated User appears to have some Admin privileges in CiviEvent

Installed CiviCRM, set Authenticated User permissions to access CiviEvent, access uploaded files, profile listings and forms, register for events, and view event info.

When the user goes to the scheduled event, he can see a "Configure" link that takes him to the events configuration screen. Shouldn't that be limited to Administrators only?

Less serious, but still peculiar, there's an active link to search for participants by name or email, despite the fact that Authenticated Users are not authorized to search the participants list (view event participants is not checked in permissions.)

What am I doing wrong?

i believe you do not want to give authenticated user permission to access civievent. instead just give:

profile listings and forms
register for events
view event info

and if you have a particular need for them to see uploaded files you can keep that permission. but the 'access civievent' permission is to get into the civievent administration area, so don't apply that.

as far as the participants link goes, i am not 100% sure on this one, but you may be able to override the default permission on a per event basis. so go to your events administration page, click the 'configure' link next to your event, then click 'event information and settings' and make sure the participant listing on that page is set to 'disabled'. then save and test again and see if that link is still there.

hope that helps

OK, I misunderstood the meaning of "access CiviEvent".  I took it to mean see the events, but it must mean administer them.  Thanks.

But if I deny access to CiviEvent, users are not allowed to visit http://www.website.com/drupal/civicrm/event.  What is the link they need in order to view and sign up for events?  There isn't one in the menu.

you should read the documentation and search as there is lots of info on this.

this doc tells you where to find live event links on a per-event basis:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Main+Manage+Events+Page

this doc tells you how to create an event block of upcoming events, use google calendars to show events, or integrate with drupal's calendar module:
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Event+Display+Blocks+and+Calendars

and then if you want a page of all upcoming events, you can also pull a feed or use an iframe if you want...just go to civicrm/admin/event and click on the globe looking icon for an html listing of upcoming events. you will also see there an RSS feed icon.

all of these are ways to access your events for the public.

My mistake was assuming that since authenticated users could not reach /drupal/civicrm/event/
they also could not reach /drupal/civicrm/event/ical.  Tricky business. :-[

yeah, there's a lot going on so it can be tricky for sure. all of those icons on the event admin page are for feeds of some kind. all those should work for you :)

For constituents - you'll want to enable "view event info" and "register for events". As you've noted, "access CiviEvents" is for managing events (add, edit, delete).

This doc covers generally helpful permission info for Drupal installs:
