Online payment processors for Canada?
August 14, 2007, 08:11:55 am
Hi,

We are evaluating CiviCRM for a charity in Canada. They currently have the option to process the memberships and donations online, using "help for charities".

I was wondering what alternatives we could propose them which would work well with CiviCRM. I looked at PayPal but I am a bit worried that it may look a bit unprofessional or even too complicated for the average user (it asks to create an account, redirects to non-themed pages). Also, the payment processor would have to support French (which PayPal does, but many others don't).

Any ideas?
matt

How about Moneris? A plug-in was contributed/developed for this by Joe Murray / Neil Adair and I think is being actively used on a number of installs in Canada.

Hi

is moneris plugin supporting VBV (verified by Visa) yet?

Just want to check the status. ^^

P.S. How much will that cost to develop the VBV function in moneris?

Thank you,

Anthony

hey anthony:

i wrote the original moneris plugin-in a few years ago and updated it for recurring donations more recently, though I don't actively use it on any of my client's sites.

this is because I mostly deal with non-profits, and IATS is generally a cheaper solution for them (and there's a CiviCRM plug-in for them too now).

but yes, Moneris does support VBV and I just did a quick google to see that there is now documentation about VBV for their php API, so I don't think it would be too difficult to add this.

if you want to find someone to put together a patch, I'm happy to review/test and add to the code base. If you want to hire me to do that, it would have to wait til January.

Any update on Moneris plug-in? Was it ever updated for Verified by VISA?

We're starting up a new hybrid social enterprise called Ethical Coffee Chain this fall, and will need recurring payments, but probably won't be able to use IATS as we will be going with a for-profit structure for the distribution network (and a non-profit for the community project fund portion of the project.) As well, we'll likely want to carry wireless credit/debit machines for taking orders as well, so Moneris seems like a better fit for that.

I have been looking all over (this forum and other sites) for information on including recurring donations through CiviCRM with Moneris.  Your post is the first I have heard of something like this being done.  I'm using CiviCRM 2.2.7 with Joomla 1.5.11.

Can you help point me to this information?  Are recurring payments with Moneris supported in Joomla 1.5?
