I'm struggling with some of the concepts of civicrm to use addresses for individuals and organisations. I couldn't find an answer in the 'floss manual'

The primary address of our contacts is the address of the organisation in which they work or volunteer. We rarely have a second address for our contacts.
For some organisations we have only one contact but for other organisations we have many.
In all cases i want to have the contactinformation of the organisation set as the primary location of the individual. For each individual i then want to add their personal email and phonenumbers.

What is the best way to enter the contact information?

1) do i make an entry of "organisation type" (including postal adress, etc)
2) make an new individual and make a relationship with the organisation in which the person works/volunteers

How can i set the address of the organisation as primary address of the individual?
Or do i have to work via 'households'

Help is very welcome.

Unfortunately, there's currently no easy solution. The ability to flag an individual as having the same primary address as their current employer organization is in the works (I believe slated for the next version), but is not yet available.

I think the only real option is just to replicate the organization's address for each individual associated with them. That involves more data entry, but currently is the only real way to preserve the one-to-many relationship (one org has many indivs associated with it).

Too bad, that means a lot of duplicate data (i thought that the point of a database was to prevent just that?)

Is there no option where i don't put in an postal address of the individuals and i can make lists(views) and mailinglists who show the address of the organisation?

1. if important to you/your org consider writing the code that supports that feature and/or sponsoring the developement of it

2. You can do that and use custom search (and maybe even the views2 integration) to get the postal address of individuals

I wish we could do so. But we don't have the skills to write the code nor the means to support the development at this moment.
We decided to use civicrm anyway because it beats using 135457484 xls-files :-)
