I see the contact reference field is now on the sandbox.

I can't tell from looking at it / testing it on the sandbox whether it respects permissions or not.

There are three different ways in which I would like to use it:

1) (least useful) all contacts can be selected using it.
2) Only contacts within a selected group can be selected using it
3) Only contacts which the logged on user has view permissions for can be selected using it

I can tell that 2 has not been implemented but does the current implementation reflect #1 or #3?

In a perfect world it would be possible to use it to select additional participants in an event which allows multiple participants to be enrolled

Currently if user has "access CiviCRM" permission then only you can select Contacts using Contact Reference field.

OK - I know people have been waiting for this in order to be able to have end users select companies on their sign up form - That might be implemented separately - will check
