I am a newbie, but have read the basics and have customized my install quite a bit with Custom Data and Profiles.

I need a way to store the Company Name for a Contact without having to create an Organization.  I don't really want to use Custom Data, I want the Company Name field to be part of the Contact record as a whole, just like the Phone or Address.

We use the tag Leads to identify possible sources of funding or support.  Leads almost always come from a Company, but have a Contact first and last name.  I need Company Name to be a part of the Lead, but we don't need an organization record because we won't be doing that much contacting them or their organization - they are the only contact for the org.

Without getting too heavy into changing the database and table relationships, can I simply add a Company Name field so I can reserve Organization records for orgs we actually do business with?

I often use Supplemental Address1 for that.
