Import ignoring default fuzzy rule when matching duplicates
July 27, 2009, 06:26:00 pm
According to the manual, 'Import uses the default fuzzy rule to decide whether a contact record is a duplicate.'

I changed our Organization default fuzzy rule to:

Street Address - 5
Supplemental Address 1  - 5
Weight Threshold to Consider Contacts 'Matching':  8

Yet it's still matching duplicates by Organization name. None of the rows I'm importing match by Street Address or Supplemental Address 1 - I've checked manually.

thanks

Ryan - Sounds like there might be some obsolete info in the manual. The page I'm aware of indicates that we use the default STRICT rule during import -> http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Find+and+Merge+Duplicate+Contacts

In general, the concept we SHOULD be consistently following is that STRICT rules are used for matching scenarios where there isn't a human interaction to evaluate the match (e.g. import, matching to existing contacts for anonymous user input as in event registration). The FUZZY rule is used when an admin / backend user adds or edits a contact record (and when you run it from Find Duplicates ...).

Can you give a link to the page with the opposite info (and fix if possible).

Thanks Dave. I generally use the Sprint Manual:

OK - found and fixed the erroneous statement in the "sources" for that chapter. The fix will get "published" next time we create a revision.
