Contribution pages and newsletter signups.
July 29, 2009, 10:20:01 am
Hi,

I would like to ask a contributor of a one time contribution page if they would also like to sign up for a newsletter. How do I add a check box and logic for this in the contributor page?  Is this doable?

I'm also trying to set up a link to a newsletter sign up page. I may have glossed over this but I couldn't find how to do this in the manual.

Does it require the user to create an account?

You can do all this by creating a CiviCRM profile with the "Group(s)" field in it - and then including that profile in your contribution page. Some background in this section of Understanding CiviCRM:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing

... and then check the Profiles and Manage Contribution Pages section on the wiki (documentation link above).

Many Thanks,

I was thinking it had something to do with Profiles.   I will read that section again.

Need some help here - Contribution pages and newsletter signups.
July 30, 2009, 01:49:07 pm
Hi, I can't figure this out - I feel I am missing a critical step. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I'm trying to add an option to capture the users email for the newsletter if they choose to do so during the contribution process.

When I create a profile, the email field does not show on the page.  If I choose individual type then I can get the name fields to show,  but of course I want to capture the email and that does not show up in my contribution page no matter what i do.

The steps I took
 - Create the profile (I selected email from contact type)
 - Under profile settings I set the "used for" to profile
 - And set "Add new contacts to a Group?" to my newsletter Group
 - Set visibility to Public pages
 - In contribution page under Include Profile I select my profile

Thanks

1. Email is always part of contribution form - so suppressed from included profile (it's already in your form and will be captured).

2. You might want to put a "Group(s)" field in your profile instead of using the "Add contacts to Group" setting. You can relabel it : Mailing List Signup or whatever you want - but this allows folks to CHOOSE if they want to be on mailling list or now. With "Add contacts to Group" - everyone who submits that contribution form will be automatically added to your newsletter group.

I'm sorry but I don't get it. I don't understand the big picture I guess.

When I'm creating a new field for my profiles what do I select from the available drop menu for Field Name? Membership, Individual?

What is the mechanism that prompts a check box or similar to add to a mailing list?

 ???

You should see a field option called "Group(s)" after selecting Contacts.

Yes!

but the box is no check-able.  Permissions?

Kind of late here, I'll give it another go later.
