CiviCRM not included in distribution for Joomla 1.1/php4
August 16, 2007, 12:13:07 am
CiviMail does not show up on the "enable components" list in my installation of CiviCRM 1.8b.10790/Joomla 1.0.13(stable).  So, I checked the server and the zip file and found nothing that looked like the component.  I can't find anything in the docs, nor on sourceforge, on where/how to get the module.  I did find the instructions for the alternative install for shared server environments, but without the module code, I can't even get to step one.  Am I overlooking something I should have found?

CiviMail requires php 5 and is therefore not included in the php 4 tarball.

As speleo noted, for CiviMail to appear in the components drop-down, you have to be using PHP 5. To answer your other question, CiviMail files are under CRM/Mailing.

Thanks to both of you.  I was afraid that CiviMail might require php5, and unfortunately, we are using a hosting provider which has php4 installed.  I don't know how I missed that in the docs, and overlooked the location of the files.  Chalk it up to too little sleep putting together a very rush-job installation.

(For the curious, the reason for the rush is the compressed timeframe for an Oregon recall initiative our group is opposing: http://supportourcourt.org)

You might want to check with them whether they don’t offer PHP 5 as well (some hosts offer both versions in parallel).
