What permission should I set my files back to?
July 31, 2009, 11:03:41 am
I'm sure this is a really basic question that I should already know the answer to, but I'm on my third re-installation of both Drupal and CiviCRM because every time I set the write permissions back to read-only (chmod 644) on the directory sites/default and the file sites/default/settings.php everything breaks.

What should I be setting the write permission to?

By "breaks" I mean I can't access CiviCRM any more and Drupal is back at the installer like it hasn't been installed yet. So I try to go through the Drupal installation process again, but I get a message that says Drupal is already installed. So I try to delete everything and do a fresh install of both Drupal and CiviCRM. I can delete everything except the sites directory because I get an error message that tells me sites/default doesn't exist. So I rename the sites directory and install everything again. It's just crazy and I need help.

Thank you!

Are you changing sites/default permissions recursively ? After you changed person, can you give chmod 777  to sites/default/files/civicrm folder ?

I'm not sure what "recursively" means and so I'm pretty sure I haven't been doing that. I can set the permission of the civicrm folder to 777, which I just did - changing it from 755.
