Volunteer and Newsletter Sign Up
July 31, 2009, 07:46:32 pm
Hi, and thanks:

i've been at this for days, and i'm so frustrated, i'm ready to kill something

I am trying to make a CiviCRM website for a political candidate, and i am looking to add 2 things to my drupal/civiCRM site:

I am looking to make a page with 2 forms: a newsletter sign up, and a volunteer sign up page... and i'm trying to integrate those 2 forms also into civiContribution, and into civiEvents as well.

I have made 2 groups, a "volunteer" group and a "newsletter" group, so the contact information can be collected, etc... I also have 2 profiles set up with the forms ready to go, each of the profiles set up to dump the contact information into the respective groups...

I can't set it up so that there is a a profile where people can select whether or not they can be defined into a group (ie: join the "newsletter" group, thus subscribe)

there is so much information about "volunteer sign up forms" and "newsletters" but nothing about taking these critical web elements, and turning them into a web page in drupal....

what on earth do i do?!??!

If you have two CiviCRM Profiles that include the fields you want for both functions, you can embed them in any Online Contribution Page using the "Include Profiles" configuration option from "Configure Contribution Page". You can also embed one or both in the Online Registration configuration for any Event (Configure Event >> Online Registration >> Include Profiles).

If you want to link to them as separate forms, just take the "link" displayed at the bottom of each Profile's Settings page and add it as a Drupal menu option and / or links in Drupal content pages. You can also include them for New User Registration (from the Profile Settings page - Used For = User Registration.

I think most of this is covered in the Collecting and Exposing Data chapter of the online book "Understanding CiviCRM" - http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing

hey jagarolik,
did you achieve this task ? if yes, how?

I am using CiviCRM 4.1 (Stable) on Drupal 7.12 for one of my precious client.
Am trying to provide the (Subscription) option on contribution page.
ie : There will be a (Checkbox) to ask users (would you like to subscribe for news letter ?).
if user select/checked the option he/she will be in the subscriber list else only the contribution should be done.
Here is the contribution form layout :

Please guide me to the right path because,
I used to have a good head of hair when I started doing this task, but I'm afraid it's getting thinner   ;D

I responded on IRC:
[14:01] <dgg> zafar: to add newsletter subscription to online contrib pages you need to create a "Newsletter" group w/ public visibility. Then include the "Groups" field in a Profile. Then include that Profile in your online contribution page.
[14:02] <dgg> more info in the user guide
