Duplicate contacts created when contributing in 1.8
August 16, 2007, 07:14:39 am
In 1.8, duplicate matching rules do not seem to be taking effect when entering contributions through a donation page.  I've set both "Duplicate Matching" and "Duplicate Contact Rules" to only use the email when determining duplicate records.  Under "Duplicate Matching Rules" I have the Email weight set at 100 and the threshold set at 99.  Is that correct?  Am I missing something?  I'm a little confused when those rules are used and what for.  I tried running the De-Dupe process and it time out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike:

You need to use Administer CiviCRM >> "Contact Matching".  We not yet changed our code to use "Duplicate Matching Rule",  it is used only for "Find Duplicate Contacts".

Kurund,

Right, I have Contact Matching set too.  I misspoke in my first post, I called it "Duplicate Matching".  Either way, it is set to only use the Email field.  But it is still allowing me to enter multiple contributions using the same email and creating new contacts for each one.  Is there some other setting in CiviContribute I'm missing?  Keep in mind, these are Contributions that are being submitted by anonymous users, not logged in users.  In 1.6 this seemed to work fine.  Thanks for your help.

Upon further testing, I went and checked out the 1.8 demo site.  The matching rule there is set to First_Name AND Last_Name.  So I set mine to that - and it worked.  So, could it be there is a bug when matching on Email?  Any insight from the dev team would be great.  I can probably use First and Last Name as the rule, but would prefer to keep it like it previously was.

Thanks,
Mike

No insights from me other than to repeat my post from http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,918.msg3814.html#msg3814 that the terminology is confusing because when dealing with 'matching contacts' the system also refers to 'duplicate contact' when it should say IMHO 'matching contact'.
