Import Contacts and activities
August 04, 2009, 09:14:58 pm
Our organization makes many first contacts at events, demonstration tables, door-to-door, etc.

We would like a way to either:

1) create a bulk entry screen to enter both contacts and activites at the same time
2) create a special module to import contacts and activities at the same time.

I don't know if this is a feature that would fit future releases.

We may be able to setup a bounty for this development if others would be interested to join us.

Ay advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Is the activity your importing the same for everyone on a particular list?  If so you currently have a simple two step process:
1) Import contacts (using Import functionality)
2) Record activity for Contacts (in the Contact search results screen)

also check:

http://svn.civicrm.org/civicrm/trunk/bin/ContributionProcessor.php

which imports contacts and contributions at the same time. its a command line script

you can potentially use that to do something similar for activities

Can you flesh this out with some examples of the activities you want 'created' alongside the import?

As suggested earlier, you can just create a Group for each import then add an Activity for all members of that Group, then trash the Group.

I posted this and then got involved in other things. Now I am back working with GiviCRM and still have this issue.

The problem with the suggested solutions is that the activities are different for each imported contact. So something like importing contacts and contributions in one go but for contacts and activities would work.

For example

New contact A with a  completed phone call
New contact B with a  left message
New contact C with a Call back later

This is related to door to door and phone canvassing, etc.
