new event field - public event title
August 06, 2009, 09:01:27 pm
Sorry if this is a dup.

We have hundreds of events.  many are clones of other events.  they may be a class with the same title each time.  there is no way to distinguish between the same event on different days, other than the date.  having an internal and external name would address this.  I would suggest making the external = internal by default, requiring that the internal name is unique and check (in realtime) for duplicate internal names when inputing.

Recurring events may help address some of this, but often its a duplicate and not recurring.

thx!

I realize this is an old request, but no comments and I wonder if there is a clever way to manage this.  Does anyone else have the same issue with many events with the same public title listed and challenges managing them on the backend?

You could use a custom field for your "internal name."

Problem is that by default event custom fields show up on the event info template. (you could hack this but it could get complicated quite quickly - if you have other fields you do want to show).

I would agree that this is a useful request. (we tend to code all of ours like universities do so our event name is - 102CFM - Circus Fit Mondays - which is helpful to us because we also ask people to code their payments made by internet banking the same way)

Right. I forgot that the fields show because I was thinking of a site I built which uses a custom event field for this very purpose, and I indeed customized the template to hide the entire custom data group from the public's view.

I would agree that a simple feature of making custom data groups public or private, i.e. not visible on the event (or contribution etc.) pages, would indeed be useful.
