Installation seems stalled.
August 09, 2009, 03:19:58 am
Hi I'm trying to install civiCRM 2.2.8 onto Drupal 6.13.
The Drupal installation onto the server seems to have gone off with out a hitch, however I am having trouble installing civiCRM.  The first time I tried installing the installation completed but upon going back to the drupal root page I recieved the following message.

"

    * warning: include_once(CRM/Core/Config.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/futureit/crm.lwb.org.nz/drupal-6.13/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 261.
    * warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening 'CRM/Core/Config.php' for inclusion (include_path='./:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/share/pear/:/usr/local/apache/phpinc/:/home/futureit/crm.lwb.org.nz/') in /home/futureit/crm.lwb.org.nz/drupal-6.13/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 261.

Oops! - The path for including CiviCRM code files is not set properly. Most likely there is an error in the civicrm_root setting in your CiviCRM settings file (sites/default/civicrm.settings.php).

» civicrm_root is currently set to: .

Please review the Drupal Installation Guide and the Trouble-shooting page for assistance. If you still need help installing, you can often find solutions to your issue by searching for the error message in the installation support section of the community forum.

I checked the files that it couldn't find and they were in the correct locations. I also checked their read/write status in case that was impacting on the issue and made them all writeable.
I then checked the civicrm.settings.php file as the civicrm_root setting seemed incorrect and found that civicrm.settings.php was empty.  I checked it's permissions and found that it didn't have write permission so I tried to change it, but I didn't have permission to change the file.  At this point I thought I would delete the file and try to install civicrm again.  Which is where I am at now.
I deleted civicrm.settings.php I then pointed my browser (firefox3.0.12) at the civicrm/install directory and went through the requirements checks.  I then pressed the button to install.  That was 2 hours ago now and the web browser is still trying to load the page.  I know that the message says that it will take a few minutes but i feel 120 is a little too long.
What should I do now? Should I stop the installation and try again? should I press resend? should I keep on waiting? do I need to talk to the people that maintain the server?
I am at a bit of a loss and would really appreciate any help offered.

many regards,

John Curwood

in general on a reasonable host, the install should not take more than a few secs - a min or so.

i would remove civicrm.settings.php and try the install again. if it still does not work, you might want to check the apache logs and see if an error is being recorded and/or contact the host

Hi,  I have contacted the host and they are looking into it as I don't have access to the hosts apache logs. In the mean time is there any way I can run the installation that would show me any error messages as it progresses?  Just so I feel like I'm doing something, instead of just waiting for others to get back to me.

Hi I tried installing civiCRM again and this time I received the following error:

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Any Ideas on where to go now?

Assuming the error is consistent, following are some of the things you can try -

1. Check your phpinfo for the encoding properties (like HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING) that are set.

2. In your Global Configuration settings (of your host account) or somewhere, do you have any kind of setting thats says "GZIP Compression", if yes whats the value set ? If it is set to NO, try changing it to YES and check.

3. Just a guess, try changing the browser and see if you get the same problem.

Hi, thanks for your reply Deepak.
for option 1, I sorry but I don't actually know how to check for phpinfo, especially on a server where I don't have access to all areas.
2. I contacted the web host and they had compression automatically turned on.  they turned it off for me and I no longer get the error message. however civicrm still fails to install.  When I click the install button the web page starts loading, the statis bar says waiting for http://crm.lwb.org.nz/drupal-6.13/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php..., the progress bar moves through until it is about a 1/3 through and then nothing more happens.  After a couple of hours I will stop it and try reloading, it then says that civicrm is alread installed and if i want to reinstall i should delete civicrm.settings.php.  At this point if I point the browser to the drupal root I will get a message saying:

"warning: include_once(CRM/Core/Config.php) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/futureit/crm.lwb.org.nz/drupal-6.13/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 261.
warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening 'CRM/Core/Config.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/futureit/crm.lwb.org.nz/drupal-6.13/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 261.
Oops! - The path for including CiviCRM code files is not set properly. Most likely there is an error in the civicrm_root setting in your CiviCRM settings file (sites/default/civicrm.settings.php).

» civicrm_root is currently set to: ."

When I check the civicrm .settings.php file it is empty.  I have tried adding the line to point the civicrm_root to the right directory to the civicrm.settings.php file but I stil get the same error except that the civicrm_root is set to a different directory.  Since the civicrm.settings.php file is empty to begin with and the installation web-page froze during the process I guess that the civicrm.settings.php file is missing alot of critical info.  I've tried deleting the settings file several and always get the same result.

for option 3 Ive tried running the install script from both firefox and IE on both Linux and windows systems, since everything is being carried out on an apache server i don't know if that would make any different but i thought it was worth a go.  I've appreciated all the help I have recieved so far, and look forward to more generous insights.

John Curwood

John, No idea whats going on. As lobo said the installation shouldn't take more than a minute. May be when you have log info/clue, we might be able to help you out.

you might want to get some paid help from http://civicrm.org/professional/

there are a fair number of folks from NZ in the community that might be able to also help out

My original plan was to get some help for this part, but my finances are not going allow it for now.
To be able to move forward with the installation do I need to wait for the host to come back to me with results from the error logs?

One other thing I've noticed is that the empty civicrm.settings.php file that is created during the installation procedure before is stalls doesn't have write privilages and I don't have privilages to change that setting, all I can do is delete the file.

I have gone through all the folders under the drupal root making them writeable, but I came across two that I didnot have permission to alter.
drupal-6.13/sites/default/files/civicrm and drupal-6.13/sites/default/files/civicrm/templates_c
would these have any effect on the installation?  Also would the fact that civicrm.settings.php didn't have write permission and i don't have permission to enable write permission have an effect on the installation?

Installer is designed to be able to detect that problem (settings file not writable) and shouldn't allow you to go ahead. Not sure how it allowed in your case if thats the problem.

Well I've managed to get civiCRM installed.

Talking to the server hosters they seemed to think that some of the folders in the civicrm folder should be in the drupal root directory based on the errors above.  so I copied the CRM and DB directories into the root and I managed to get a little further, then after spending hours trolling the forums I found a copy of civicrm.settings.php that i was able to use as a template to replace the blank civicrm.settings.php file that the installer left.  I still had problems finding certain files and discovered that I needed to capitalise the letters in several folder names (CRM, DB, DAO, BAO, etc) why they were in lowercase I don't know.  After doing all this I tried removing the CRM, packages, DB, PHPgettext and smarty folders that I had to add to the Drupal root directory in the beginning to stop the errors that were comming up when I went to the drupal page, to see if the site would still run as it seemed untidy having to move all these folders from their original locations into the drupal directory just to get the website running.  I have had to replace the DB back into the Drupal root as errors started popping up again but the others I have been able to leave out for now.

tomorrow I will find out how it runs.

cheers,

John Curwood

Well I have come across another issue.
I got to the step where I was setting permissions for the civicrm module.  those were saved and then when I went to do the next step a Drupal screen came up saying access denied.  I tried logging in but after entering my password it just comes back to the login screen again.  I think the password is correct because if I enter the incorrect password I get an error message.  I did try re-setting my password I received an email with a link to the site on it but when I press the button where I was to reset my password it came up with access denied again.  Did i accidently remove something from the permissions page?  I thought that I had allowed authenticated users access to almost everything.
Any Ideas would be much appreciated.

John Curwood
