New Problem!
August 17, 2007, 08:39:29 am
Argh!

I installed a trial of WinZip so I could unzip the installation files. I can unzip them on my computer, but I CAN'T get them to extract to my site directory. I also tried copying/pasting each file (after unzipping), but I can't tell what the proper hierarchy should be (i.e. which files in which folder-- they're all just seperate files at the moment).

Any advice?
FYI- I'm using Linux, MySQL 5.?, PHP5, Drupal 5.1, GoDaddy hosting, Windows.

Ok, never mind. I got the content uploaded.

The directions on the CiviCRM page say to go to this URL to start the 'install' process: http://<your_drupal_home>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/install/index.php
However, when I type in the URL (substituting my site name for <your_drupal_home>), I get a 'page does not exist' error.

I checked on my FTP host, and the file they're talking about is nowhere to be found. There is no such thing as '/install/index.php' in the '../modules/civicrm/drupal/' folder.
The files located in that folder are as follows:
api.php
civicrm.info
civicrm.install.sample
civicrm.module
civitest.module.sample

Any suggestions for what I should try next?

CiviCRM installer is available for CiviCRM v1.8 and not earlier versions. So might want to get latest tarball and try again.

OK, so I've been doing some additional work, and I've been following the directions for a manual installation and using some suggestions that were mentioned on the user forums.

Now, I'm stuck again.
On the Home > Administer > Site Building > Modules page, it gives me an option for the CiviCRM module under the 'Other' section.
When I click on 'Enable', I get this message:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in /home/content/j/o/y/mysiteinfo/html/drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.install on line 100

I have NO idea what to do with this error.
Lines 100 & 101 on the civicrm.install file are:
   $httpBase     = $pieces['path'];
    $resourceBase = $httpBase . '/modules/civicrm/';

Ohhhh.....After using the manual configuration method, I realized I was downloading v1.7. I thought that was the most recent release I could find...... Would you happen to have a link to where I could download a more recent version?

You can try CiviCRM 1.8 beta:

Thanks!
Although....now that I've got half the process completed with the v1.7, I'm tempted to just stick with it.
Any ideas on how to deal with the error I mentioned?

We would highly recommend you to use CiviCRM v1.8. But if you still want to go ahead with v1.7.

Please check: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Install+CiviCRM+1.7+for+Drupal

Yay! I noticed the stable release!

So, I ended up un-installing v1.7, and I've been spending ALL AFTERNOON trying to get the v1.8 file to extract to my FTP.....

I can download the file, and then I get all sorts of errors when I try opening it up.
I tried using WinZip, and I was told that it 'cannot create new TAR, ZIP, etc, etc files'.
I tried using Compressed (zip) folders, and it either 'unzipped' to a SINGLE gz file that wouldn't do anything other than give me yet another error message if I tried to do anything with it, or it would say that it couldn't open because it was 'password protected', so it prompted me to enter a password ?????
I tried using 7-zip, and I could very easily extract all the files IN that program, but if I tried to move them to my FTP, it always failed.

So...now that I've decided to commit to the 1.8 release, any ideas on how in the heck I can get the damn files loaded up to my site?

Blah!!!!!

So, I finally managed to get the files unzipped and uploaded. (since when is extracting files so difficult?!?!   :P)
I went to the install screen, and after entering in all the proper info, it turns out that I'm running PHP*4*!!! I thought I had PHP5!!!!!

If I try to enable  CiviCRM via the admininstration panel, I end up getting this error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected ',', expecting '(' in /home/content/mysiteinfo/html/pagename/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 477

Here's the text from civicrm.module from lines 475-479:
if ( $userID ) {
        $html = CRM_Core_BAO_UFGroup::getEditHTML( $userID, '',
                                                   CRM_Core_Action::UPDATE, true,
                                                   $reset, null,
                                                   $doNotProcess, $ctype );

So I guess the questions I have are:
Would it still be possible to salvage all the time I spent installing this and make it work even though I'm evidently working with PHP4 instead of 5?

If I *can* get it to work with PHP4, what can I do to fix the parse error?

***Edited to add***
I probably -could- change from a PHP4 to PHP5 server, but I use GoDaddy, and at the mercy of their hosting. Other times, when I've had issues with mysql databases, it usually took 2-3 days to get it resolved. I'm impatient.....what can I say? Iwantsatisfactionrightnowthankyouverymuch!! lol.....

Yup, me again!

I caved and downloaded the PHP4 version of v1.8, and I've been using the manual configuration instructions.

Now, I'm stuck at these errors:
warning: civicrm_initialize(CRM/Core/Config.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/j/o/y/joymelissajoy/html/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 243.
warning: civicrm_initialize(): Failed opening 'CRM/Core/Config.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/var/www/htdocs/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm/:/var/www/htdocs/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm//packages:.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/content/j/o/y/joymelissajoy/html/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm/drupal/civicrm.module on line 243.
Oops! - The path for including CiviCRM code files is not set properly. Most likely there is an error in the civicrm_root setting in your CiviCRM settings file (sites/default/civicrm.settings.php).

» civicrm_root is currently set to: /var/www/htdocs/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm/.

Ummm.....help? Thanks!

1. Please read the error message a bit more carefully

2. your civicrm_root should be: /home/content/j/o/y/joymelissajoy/html/txdirectory/sites/all/modules/civicrm/

Thanks! That worked!!

....and it was quite the obvious fix, too.....
After smacking myself in the head for a second, I changed the code and everything works just fine now!

Thanks for the help!
