Here there. I am new on this forum. Implementing CiviCRM on two sites at the moment. For one website the feature request is to make it possible for participants of an event to hook up with other participants with the same interests.

For instance one participant enters information during registration:

Requesting info on

  • yellow
  • purple
  • green

Contact me for info on

  • blue
  • pink

The idea is to provide a list with interesting/recommend people to meet during the event. How would one set this up?

Most simple idea that comes to mind is to use public profile listings, otherwise you'll need to assemble some custom code.

When using the public profile method, is it possible to show Custom Data entered by the participant during registration (without custom code :) ?

you should spend some time reading the book and manual to see what is possible. specifically check this chapter:

http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing

you can expose custom data on contacts/indiv... on profiles without custom code.
