Smart Groups Not Saving All Criteria

I've created a smart group with the intention of including people from a specific postal code range who are in my "newsletter" group (ie, those who have opted in).  So when I make an advanced search and choose newsletter and put in the zip code range and save, it doesn't work.  What happens instead is that I get ALL members of the newsletter group.  I click on edit criteria for smart group and try again and see that the zip codes aren't part of the criteria anymore.  But fixing it and saving still doesn't work.  I'm stuck and not sure what I might be doing wrong.

I'm using civicrm 2.2.0

i'm pretty sure this was a bug in early versions of 2.2.x which was fixed sometime ago. I could not reproduce on demo either

you might want to upgrade to 2.2.8

Thanks.  I thought that might be, but upgrading isn't simple, so I hadn't.  I will now.
