CiviEvent - configure + text thoughts
August 15, 2009, 12:31:38 am
Hello,

Just looking at CiviEvent on 3.0 and I have noticed two things:

1) The Event Summary page (http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/event&reset=1) has a 'configure' link. It would be ideal if this link was one of those new fangled usability drop downs that allowed you to go directly the configure step you want to access. The 'configure' page is really just an extra click that adds no value (except a bit of help text) now that the tabbed version is there. I would be inclined to add those links to the 'more' that does exist on the manage events page (http://sandbox.civicrm.org/civicrm/event/manage?reset=1). The two pages are kind of duplicates but I wind up using both because the event summary page does the best events display but the manage events page allows you to see events other than the 10 most recent.

2) The manage events page by default only shows current or future events (I'm not keen on this because I only resort to this page when the events aren't on the Event summary but OK). However, if there are no current or future events the message is: "There are no events created yet. You can add one. " which isn't really accurate as there are events created.

3) Hah - did I say two?
Look how odd the notes fields looks on this page

item 3 is now fixed in trunk

fixed item 2 and renamed the message to: There are no events scheduled for the date range.

With regard to 1, you are a power user and hence the configure page does not add any value. I think for most of our user base, that page and help text does help (IMHO). In a future version when we have a hook on the "Configure" link, you can always extend the menu items available
