Creating custom template for specific profiles

Hi all,

Am I right in assuming that there is functionality built in to CiviCRM that means that if you want to customise the pages of a particular profile, say the one with gid 3, that you just put all your custom templates in subdirectories of "templates/CRM/Profile/3/"

I am sure I saw this somewhere, but maybe I am confusing it with something else / it was a dream.

Any light anyone could shed on this would be great.
