Problems when adding a new organisation to an individual
August 19, 2009, 08:12:51 pm
I get a strange problem...

When adding a new individual, I add in the name of a new organisation and if I then go to add the contact, the view page sometimes comes up without adding the organisation, and at other times puts "undefined" in there, even though I added an organisation name.

Any thoughts...?

Thanks,

Adam

By adding organisation, do you mean adding a current employer / relationship for a new individual.
Either way I am not able to replicate on my local install.

Can you replicate the behaviour on demo (http://demo.civicrm.org/) and give steps to replicate.

I added the individual test test. When adding I added an organisation into the "Current Employer" box of "this is a test"

When I go to the user: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=202

There is no organisation in the relationships. It was my understanding that if you add an organisation name in this field it would create that organisation for you, but it doesn't seem to in this case. I haven't got the "undefined" yet but I'll continue to try.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Lobo,

I'm using Safari... I have been playing more with the demo and it seems to work for me now, although that first time it didn't for sure.

On the demo site I get the following when adding a new organisation in this field:  (New Contact Record)

I don't have this on my version at all and can't see where its coming from. This is an obvious indication that things are working. We are on v2.2.7 - has this been introduced since? If so is there anyway I can add this in to our version to try?

Also, getting the dropdown with suggestions in (or the new name if suggestions don't exist) is very very slow so maybe this has something to do with it - we only have around 20 organisations in the database so far! Is there something obvious that could be slowing this down?

Thanks,

Adam

I've also done more testing on my version and it seems that it never actually adds a new organisation, but comes up with "Undefined"... if anything at all. The "Undefined" provides a link through to a new organisation contact but obviously this is without name.

Its very strange as we've not changed much other than template files...

In addition if I click on the dropdown button at the far-right of the field and select "More Choices" the dropdown simply disappears and no results come back. I can't understand what I've done!

We're working through it, but this one really appears to be a AJAX issue, we know that much.

We are in the process of moving the site to a new server on Friday night so probably better we deal with it after that...

Thanks for your help and I may well come on to IRC soon to get some extra tips!

Ok so it seems that the "Current Employers" inherits something from the "Shared Household" section of the system.

We commented out the code for this:

Use Household Address
Check this option if you want to use a shared household address for this individual. You can either select an existing household, or create a new one.

And thats what was causing the problems with the Current Employers. How can we remove the above without affecting the current employers? It seems quite strange that you can't have one without the other... as far as I can tell other than AJAX functionality, they don't share anything else.

Thanks,

Adam
