Import contacts gives unexplainable message
August 23, 2009, 02:29:17 pm
I have imported a small batch of contacts from a csv file.

Now I am trying to import the rest using the same basic csv file.

I am getting a message that says:

Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:

    * Input file must be in CSV format

I have tried to save the file in every style of csv (windows, dos and macintosh)

Any ideas on why this would fail?

make sure u save it in utf8 format. Open Office seems much more reliable and predictable with saving files in utf8. Excel sometimes messes up the encoding format

I have consistently found that a csv file that has been saved closed and reopened fails (openoffice) so i always create a new file, select all, paste in, save and then import

Just wanted to thank lobo here.

It has been a little while since I have had Open Office installed (short story... moved to mac and at the time poor support on mac).

Anyway,  Open Office was the solution. This worked perfectly.

NB even with Open/NeoOffice you may find that once a csv has been saved and reopened, it won't import, if so, just select all, copy, paste and save as a new csv
