Enabling 'edit' for 'employee of' Relationship
August 23, 2009, 09:46:59 pm
It seems to have come up a few times - so wondering if the 'employee of' and maybe the 'household member/head' relationships could at least be 'editable' to the point of changing the name eg so that 'employer/employee' could become 'team of / team member of'.

The 'employee' relationship seems to be particularly useful in many settings - beyond just being the 'employee of' - might there also be an option to have some cloned versions of this relationship that would have the same capabilities in terms of auto-creating relationships during Event/Donation etc?

This has been fixed for 3.0 under http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3336 . Here is the sandbox link :

Thanks Yashi - that is great.

It might be really helpful if there could be a special section in the /civicrm/admin/reltype?reset=1 help text that explains the 'special case' relationships ie 'employer' and 'household' relationships so people understand that these ones have 'additional features' associated with them. eg (just to try and kick this off)

SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS.
Employee/Employer and Household relationships both have special characteristics.
Employee/Employer relationship is created anytime the 'Current Employer' field is filled in, either in the Contact Summary form or via a Profile. When filled in, it will create an Organisation if one does not already exist with that name.
Household relationships enables household members to have the 'household address' applied to their record. Again, if a Household already exists then the individual will have a relationship created with it, if none exists then a new household will be created.

I will leave the question of a 'cloning' feature hanging in the air ;-)
