United States / USA
August 26, 2009, 05:13:22 am
We're based in the UK, but have USA-resident supporters whom we snail-mailshot 4 times yearly.

Would it be possible in v3.0 to change 'United States' as country to USA, USofA or United States of America so users like us don't have to customise?

Thanks

Vincent

2 letter acronyms for countries are an ISO standard

in most places where we use the country abbreviation, you can change the token to use the full country name {country_name}

I must be suffering from newbyness again, then: exporting US residents to mailing labels results in addresses with a last line of 'United States'

you will need to modify the value in the table civicrm_country if you want the name to be different than United States

Understood - and I apologise for pressing a point, but everywhere in the world outside the United States, one would need to specify 'of America' in order to avoid confusion.

IMHO either 'USA' or 'United States of America' would be a useability improvement for international users with no downside for US users. It just makes for one thing less to doublecheck manually when upgrading.

Thanks for all the work you guys do - Civi is awesome

wanna make your case to the nice folks at the ISO

http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_names_and_code_elements#u..

we use the country names/abbreviation  from the ISO-3166 db
