State List disappears when Country chosen on dropdown

I'm running CiviCRM 2.2.8 on Joomla 1.5.14.

When I populate the Name/Address profile during the CiviEvent sign up process with the county (Australia) does the list of states disappears ?

However this function works on Firefox, but not in IE6/7 or Safari ?

I've disabled my Google analytics plugin in case of conflict.

Any ideas ?

we do most/all of our development/testing on firefox

might want to use the developer tools on IE/Safari and see what part of the javascript is causing issues and why. We use a third party js package (chainedSelect jQ widget) to manage the state/country list
