I'm importing contacts from an Access db -- selecting the members of a group, exporting to csv, then importing adding each set to a new group (about 4,000 records total, belonging to about a hundred groups).  Each time I run the import, it gives me the correct number of records, then performs the import fine, but then it completes with double the number of group members, half of which are empty records.   It's not that much effort to go back in and select the empties and delete them for a group that has a dozen members, but when I get to the hundreds, it's going to be a pain.

I didn't think I was, but most of our contacts have an organization (which I've mapped to Employed by).

That seems to be what's happening, but it's not creating Organization records, so they're just empty records with a relationship to the user.  So I have to import all my organizations first, and then import the individuals?  In the old database, this field is used mostly for printing labels, but can also indicate membership in one of our components, so eventually, I'll probably create a new field with a new relationship for that, but for now, I just want to get everything moved over.

It seems that I must have messed up my import mapping somehow (not getting the organization correctly mapped).  I started over, and it's working as expected.  Thanks so much for the suggestions.

The work around is to split your csv in to two - do an import for those with the relationship - and another one for those who don't have one so you don't create blank records
