User Registration in Joomla
August 29, 2009, 01:22:39 pm
Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I'm not clear on the user registration in Civi and Joomla.

Here are my questions:

1. Are these two features mutually exclusive? I know that I can manually synch the two - but there's no link between the two? Has anyone written a script that can run?

2. I can't find User Registration in Civi for Joomla - I'd like to expose that as a menu item, but can't even find it.

Thanks in advance,

Donald Lobo

1. A contact is created when a joomla user visits a CiviCRM page. You can potentially write a plugin on user creation to create a contact when a user is created. if so please share your code with the community

2. not sure what you mean by this. There is no User registration packaged with the component. you might want to give civiuser a shot and see if that meets your needs:

I suppose (I haven't thought this through) that you could disable the usual "register for Joomla" option in the login module, and then have a 'join website' link that leads to a CiviContribute page containing a minimal membership sign up (i.e. a free membership for life) with a profile containing just name/email which requries website registration as you go.

This would then force website/Joomal registration to occur via CiviCRM and thus a CiviCRM record would be created for every new website member. It doesn't then necessarily keep the two registrations up to date, although I suspect that generally all Joomla modules that do extended membership things will find life easier in Joomla 1.6 when there is a more extensible member structure.
