Member List or Member Directory -- Joomla instance
September 01, 2009, 06:28:54 pm
One of the benefits of membership in our organization is the opportunity to be listed on our public website.

I have been searching for a way to either 1) generate a public list (by member type) that includes Name, City, Website, and 2 custom fields... or 2) have CiviCRM membership data easily bridge into a Joomla Directory Extension such as Mosets Tree or Sobi2.

Anybody have any experience to share?

I would love to see how others are doing this type of thing with CiviCRM on Joomla.

Thanks in advance.

any specific reason you cannot do this via profiles? You can put your members in a smart group and use the "limit listings to group" functionality

Thanks Lobo.  Playing with profiles now, I had just managed to find an article in the docs leading me there.

The primary issue I am having with Profiles is that I want to have the Member Listings displayed without the user performing a search.

The way the profile is behaving for me (when I create a menu using the CiviCRM Profile View menu type)  is that the page displays a search box with no listings as the default.

I am new to Joomla (as well as to CiviCRM), but I have been able to figure out that when the query string includes force=1 then the entire group is displayed.  I just can't figure out how to get that into the query string for the menu item.

Also, how would I go about adding one set of fields for the listings display and a more detailed set of fields for when the user clicks on the "view" link provided by the template?

PS. I think this is awesome software and I look forward to contributing back to the community in whatever ways I can.

Reading through the instructions here...

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Profile+Listings+and+Forms+in+Joomla!+Sites

It says:

In the Parameters-Basic section (upper right):

    * Choose CiviCRM Task - select Profile Search and Listings OR Profile Create (for new contact input form).
    * Ignore the Contribution ID field (this is used when creating a menu item for Online Contribution Pages).
    * Enter the Profile ID using the numeric ID value you noted in the section above.

My Parameters-Basic section has only one setting... for "select a profile."

Has this functionality changed since the documents were written, or is my install incorrect somehow?

in the instuctions for adding a menu item to a contribution page in Joomla 1.5, CiviCRM 3.0 it says...

    * Do not modify the Reset field value (it should always be 1).

When I click on the Parameters-Basic section, my ONLY selection is the Contribution Page name only. I DO NOT have an option to choose CiviCRM Task.

Somebody please help.
