Error when trying to use CiviCRM

i installed CiviCRM in joomla on dreamhost shared hosting. it installs with out error but when i try to use it i get the following error

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/.skoshy/mcmasterag/henrymcmaster.com/site/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Core/Config.php on line 57

any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect u are running a php4 server but installed the php5 version of civicrm
