Our clients would like CiviCRM to carry out the process of allowing people to join online. During Join on line they would like to give the oppurtunity to make additional contributions.

What I have found is that with "Separate Membership Payment" check box checked the system expects the minimum contribution amount to be that of the membership due selected. Also, once payment is made the membership due is recorded with the membership due + contribution amount.

When the check box is not checked then I can place any value into the contribution field, pick a membership type and I get a total payment method. This is fine until the payment is requested, in my case from ProtX. I think the system is expecting to decduct multiple payments. Our client doesn't want multiple payments, a single payment but CiviCRM to record the contribution seperately from the membership record.

I would therefore like a single amount to be submitted to the ProtX payment processor (or any form based payment processor for payment). Can anyone point me in the direction of the changes I would need to make to make this happen?
