Deleting Cases
September 09, 2009, 02:12:35 am
When A case is deleted it can be restored. The screen which shows this only allows for Export or Restoring not removing from the system 9and DB)? How can the unwanted cases be removed completely? Can/Do we need a Delete option?

Thing is, I do a lot of testing and want to remove this stuff from the system.

You cannot delete case completely. You can only trash them.

Can you elucidate? I thought "trash" was the american for "delete". I am UK so they mean the same to me. I hope this does not mean I am stuck with this unwanted stuff in the DB!

By trash, it means setting "is_deleted" = 1 in the civicrm_case table
and deletion means complete removal of the row.

In clinical case management there are auditing requirements where you can't delete data, so trash (which is like the recycling bin on your desktop) was the alternative. The difference between the recycling bin and this use of the word trash is that you can empty the recycling bin, so actually yes that's confusing. It's not really "trash" in CiviCase, it's "hidden".

If you really want to remove the database entries for now you need to do it at the database level.

OK, that's clear now. Could someone move this post the the list of requests for consideration for a requirement. I would suggest that there is a case removal facility at an admin level (after all admin can access the DB) or combined with a password access to confirm.
