How to login from Joomla recognising Member status

OOps
In using the authenticate plugin mentioned below i disabled joomla authentication plugin which when reenabled allowed login.
Interesting as it suggestss that the authentication plugin mentioned below is not working properly.

So this is where he debug needs to happen....

I have a local Joomla CiviCRM setup on local Mac machine.
Joomla 1.5.14, CiviCrm beta 3, php 5, mysql 5

I have created memberships and contribute pages.
I have linked the contribute page so new users can create an account AD join the group.

However when I try to login with the Joomla user name and password I just get a blank page on submit.
I am using the Jooml aauthentication plugin for membership -http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla+CiviCRM+Membership+Authentication+Plugin

I am also running Xampp for mac with xdebug - whch means it might be a bit flaky but it all looks and works ok as far as i can tell .

I might try this on a live dev server too to rule out local xamp/mac/php session phenomena but assuming this is ok
