Is it possible to create a customized thank you letter that would look like the following, or even a secondary email formatted as below? if so how would I go about it?

Mr. or Mrs xxxxx

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for your generous donation of $xxxx to XYZ Foundation. Your contribution will help men and women veterans who suffer from substance abuse and post traumatic stress disorder receive the dual-diagnosis treatment and continuum of care they so desperately need. Please be advised that no goods or services were provided in consideration of this gift. Tax Exemption Pending.

You might want to use Message Templates for this,
you should look for Administer CiviCRM -> Message Templates and you could embed tokens in the message
and you can search a bunch of contacts and send an email to them.

Yashodha,

I want this to be sent out when ever I get donations just as the current receipt is sent. Actually I really just want to format that receipt better, is that possible?

I was not aware of message templates... I will check this out for sure.
