The from address
September 15, 2009, 06:17:58 pm
When we signed up for CIviCRM we used the address civimailrfc@civimail.rfc.org
But the clients wants the email to show that it is from say Amber@rfc.org.

CiviCRM Let's you change this at the CiviMAIL send time to use another address.
Are they now only to use the address we signed up with?

Thanks

IMO you can use any from address. for v2.1 default from address is pull from domain information.

CiviCRM v2.2 onward you can have set of from email addresses.
related issue is here : http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3552

Thing is this form asks alot of questions like IMAP server etc.
BUT if you read the uas site http://civismtp.uas.coop/drupal/node/1
It mentions
CiviCRM 2.2+

Quote
Save the Domain Information settings
Go to "Administer CiviCRM" -> CiviMail -> Mail Accounts
Edit the default account and set the following values only
Name - whatever name you wish to give to this account
Email Domain - The domain you used for configuring your MX records, for example newsletter.example.com
Protocol - choose any value
Default Option? - yes - select the checkbox and click "Save"

Two things here.
1. Will it mess their spam settings if it is using say civimail.rfc.org BUT their FROM is rfc@rfc.org
2. Where can the user check the IMAP box for the stranded emails that contain info like
--My new email address is..
--or Click here to bypass our spam filter.
???
Thanks

you can use any From address.

it doesn't have to be at the same domain as the newsletter domain that you use for civismtp.

when emails go through the civismtp system we only look at the reply-to address, which will be generated using the Email Domain you configured in your CiviCRM, in your case civimail.rfc.org.

I am not sure i entirely understand the second question. what do you mean by stranded emails?

If a user replies to a mailing sent via CiviMail + CiviSMTP it will first go to CiviSMTP and then directed to your CiviCRM installation via SOAP. If you checked the option to "forward replies" when creating the mailing then civimail will forward any reply for that mailing to the From address.

thank you that makes sense.
The stranded emails are like those personal emails that people send back (though they are automated) telling people their new email address. They tend to sit in the email box.
But the forward will make this okay.

Thanks again.
