CiviMail tracking breaks certain links
September 16, 2009, 08:49:56 am
Hello

I have added a link to an email I am sending out using CiviMali. The link is: http://www.carcanet.co.uk/cgi-bin/indexer?owner_id=815
All other links included in this email are fine.

Can you tell me what about this link is causing tracker or the database trouble is it the '?' or the '=' and if there is an escape character I can use so we can include this link in our email and use tracker and have the tracked link work?

Many thanks

Donald Lobo

can u tell us what is broken with the link. what does it become and what does it resolve to. that will give us some clues as to what part might be breaking the link (which is a bug)

Hi,
I may be off base about this but I wonder if this is the same problem as was fixed here: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-3384.

Hope it helps,
Cynthia

Hi Thanks for your reply sadly we are still on an older version of Civi and can't upgrade simply as the Drupal side of things has lots of ccustom code that would need to be re-written.

Hi
The link is written out by Civi like this: http://www.soundandmusic.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php%20?u=21201&qid=26904

Other links working ones do not have the %20 so look like this:
http://www.soundandmusic.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php?u=21202&qid=26904

Have also tried to use tinyurl.com: <a href="http://tinyurl.com/obx86u">

putting this into the email instead of the full link but still no joy. It renders: http://www.soundandmusic.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/url.php%20?u=21494&qid=27029

still produces a 404 on the site we are emailing from.

the same as before so hope this helps track down the issue.

unfortunately at this time we are not supporting the 2.0.x / 2.1.x series. You'll have to ask your consultant or hire someone from http://civicrm.org/professional/ to take a look at it. I would take a look at the fisheye issue and backport the changes
