Warning: MySQL server has gone away query: SELEC

Hi,
I was sending out an email to our members and when it sent it came up with this message
Warning: MySQL server has gone away query: SELECT * FROM system WHERE type = 'theme' in /home/noah/public_html/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 174.
The message was being sent to about 2000 people, only some ofour members recieved it.
I also tried sending a newsletter to a much smaller group and got the smae message.
Our webserver is zen and our civi crm is on a share with drupal.
ANy help would be most appreciated
