Duplicate events automatically being created
September 22, 2009, 09:02:52 am
Something strange is going on with our CiviEvents. Copies of events are being automatically created.

I'm not sure what the frequency is yet, but it appears to happen almost every night. We'll check in the morning and now there's "Event" and "Copy of Event". If we don't delete the copy, the next day we'll have "Copy of Copy of Event". And so on.

See the attached for a screen shot. (Sorry for the quality. It was hard to keep it under 32KB.)

I don't see any similar reports of this in the forums or the issue tracker. But, a Google search turned up someone's publicly available CiviEvent control panel that appears to have the same problem: http://www.ueillinois.org/civicrm/event/manage?reset=1

We are running CiviCRM 2.2.7 on Drupal 6.

Is there a setting that I'm missing or is this some kind of bug? I appreciate any thoughts.

Are you sure you are not accidently hitting the link http://www.mysite/civicrm/event/manage?reset=1&action=copy&id=16

We only create copies when you hit the Copy Event link.

most likely you have allowed anonymous / authenticated users access to your CiviEvent admin screens.

You might want to lock down your drupal permissions (specifically: access CiviEvent) with regard to anon/auth users and give them more limited access.

I made a newbie mistake and had the Manage CiviEvents permission checked for anonymous users. Perhaps a search engine or other spider found its way to that screen and clicked the copy link?

I locked it down now, so we'll see if any new copies show up.

Thanks for the quick responses.
