CiviSync - CiviCRM to Outlook Synchronisation
October 22, 2009, 10:47:51 am
Hi Guys,
Correct me if this is in the wrong category but I just wanted to tell everybody about the Outlook component which Target Integration is developing and will be released soon for CiviCRM version 2.2.

When we started the project; the requirements from the component were:

  • It should be able to synchronise all the contacts from the CiviCRM database to Outlook as contacts
  • All the groups should become "Mailing Lists" in Outlook
  • All the members should become "Mailing Lists" of that membership name
  • The application should be able to run in the background without disturbing other processes on the exchange server or a user's pc/laptop

The original SoapServer.php file wasn't creating all the calls so we extended it to include rest of the soap calls.

Another file civicrm.php creates a simple Soap server which can communicate with the component.

Once everything was ready on the CiviCRM Server integration with Outlook was easy.

I plan to upload all the files for the community members to have a look and provide their comments. We'll also share the component with the community in coming days.

Don't know yet about porting it to version 3.0 but if things are still the same compared to version 2.2 it shouldn't be too difficult.

Regards
Rohit

Hi,

Sounds like a great project, looking forward to see the code.

Practical question: why did you use soap instead of the REST api ? (the later seems to have more traction in the community)

Hi Ivan,

We are in the final stages of testing the component. Just fixing a few bugs. The application will be out hopefully end of next week.

Drop us an email on rohit@targetintegration.com and I'll make sure that you get to know as soon as it is out.

Hey Guys!!!

Sorry, I couldn't make to the CiviCon.

The wait for CiviSync is now over. Download the files from here and give us your reviews. http://bit.ly/bw34Fh

I am going to start a new thread in the support section where all the support queries will be answered. It is a beta release and we will appreciate feedbacks from you guys to improve it further.

Also, please note there is no security at the moment and what that means is, once you install the files in your respective CiviCRM installation anyone can download the contacts using CiviSync or the SOAP queries.

Let us know if you have any queries or questions.

Regards
Rohit

Hi,

Have you been able to solve the authentication problem ?

We discussed about how being able to identify all the new contacts that have been added in a group, and what changed on existing contacts in that group, so you could know what to sync.

Have you already implemented that part ? I'd like to hear more about it.
