bad emails are not bouncing from civimail

i read through the config files and have everything except bouncing working wonderfully.
Nothing bounces.

If I send an email from my client, it bounces.
But from civimail, it does not.
The mail is sent properly.
Everything else works fine.
Nothing bounces.

I'm using SMTP, and this was working last week.
What could I have done?

any advice is appreciated.

Hi,

run manually the script that process the bounces, see what it outputs.

A chapter in our book "Understanding CiviCRM" is available online http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/SystemConfiguration and describes all the steps needed to get civimail working.

That is a great document and I've read it a couple times.

Only the bouncing doesn't bounce.
It is recorded as a successful delivery.

This was working before I changed the default Mail Account.
Now, even changing it back, doesn't fix the bouncing.

I know I'm missing something, but can't find it.
...still looking.

Hi,

Plenty of reasons not to work: that's not an invalid email address, the bounce email doesn't return into the right bounce mailbox, civi can't read from this mailbox, you don't run the program to process the mailbox...

disable your crons, Check manually if the bounce is in the bounce mailbox, if you run the bounce processor manually to see what it does (doesn't do), paste the details of what you get here.

Our email server is getting confused.
See, the server thinks the return path email is on the server, but it is on gmail.
the hostname matches the email domain, so the server tries to find the return path on local host and fails.
we are working on solving this problem.

it appears this is not an issue within crm.

I'm having the same problem. How did you resolve?
