Moving a participant to a different event

I would like to be able to move a registered participant from one event to a different event.  Is this possible?  As a bit of background:

I run a hockey school.  Sometimes I have players that can't make the camp/school that they signed up for and want to switch to a different camp.  If I delete them and re-register them, then I lose all of their payment information and registration information (custom data) associated with the event.  Ideally I would just be able to switch them to a different camp date/location, and preserve the payment and registration information.  Is there an easy way to do this?  If not, is there a good workaround?  Or is this in development?

There used to be a way.... but it got turned off.

The reason it was disabled is that the pricing of events can vary & it would be quite complicated to write what should happen with pricing at this point.

But, I also wish it hadn't been disabled as we can happily bodge up the contribution record if need be to fix the amount but it takes DB intervention to change the associated event

I wanted to add that DB intervention works fine, however.  Just change the event ID in the participant table.

I hadn't realized that this used to be a feature, and was even considering proposing it as an addition that we would pay for.  We tend to have dozens of events that are exactly identical except for date (multiple performances of a single production).  Moving people's tickets to another night is frequent need, which I've been handling by manipulating the DB.  Sure would be nice to include it in the UI.

To my way of thinking, if the prices don't match, it's up to the admin to decide if they'd like to bodge the contribution record or just cancel one registration and create another...

Just to say I have a client that would like to have access to as UI tool to assist with moving participants from one event to another. Most of their events are charged at the same price, so that wouldn't be an issue. Currently they are manually cancelling the registration on event 1 and then registering the contact to event 2, leaving the contribution record as is.
