paypal website payment standard NOT updating contribution status

Hello,

I set up paypal sandbox merchant account and also followed the instructions on http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC32/PayPal+Website+Payments+Standard+and+Recurring+Contributions

When I test the contribution, after payment it returns back to the site and also updates in PayPal, but the "Contribution" status still shows "Pending: Incomplete transaction"

Even I am not able to find the log file or anything for this.

Can anyone please help me with this as I search a lot for this and found no help?

1. does your test server have a public IP address?

2. Can you check your apache logs and see if there is a call to ipn.php from the paypal servers?

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, we have the public IP address. The Joomla site is installed at http://74.54.9.107/~ccnsw/

I have checked the apache error logs and there is no entry for ipn.php or anything from PayPal. What could be wrong here?

Same issue here using a fresh install of Civi 3.3.5 on Drupal 6.20 with PHP 5.2.15 and MySQL 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a.  The Apache log shows paypal's call to the IPN, HTTP status 200, Paypal's IPN log shows that the payments are complete after I accept the payment (I have the paypal sandbox review payment on) however, there is no CiviCRM.log.  I went in and followed advice from this post: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php?topic=9389.0, uncommented mentioned lines in PayPalIPN.php within the Core directory, still no log.  And, the biggest issue, the payments in the search for Test Contributions stay Pending.

Any ideas?

depending on where civicrm is installed

I am using Joomla and couldn't find the specific location for ipn.php

Invoking IPN url: I don't understand what you meant.

I also tried using PayPal Pro and using Credit Card on the website it gave me below error message;
Payment Processor Error message
: 10501:Invalid Configuration This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration.

With PayPal pro, I was able to checkout using PayPal test account successfully though.

Ah yes, I had found that too, but, it's singularly useless in the info it contains.

It's a 92 line file that seems to only contain two events

One referencing: [page] => /civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/address
The other referencing [page] => /civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/display

Both of which, based on the IP addresses and locations noted as well are me doing things, nothing that seems to smack of a remote access.  I really don't think there is anything in this log that would help, but if there's anything specific?

It is kind of odd that though I've been working on the site all day, only two things are logged heh.

limerick: sorry, no idea what the issue is in your case. most likely our ipn script is not being called

compared to:

http://74.54.9.107/~ccnsw/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/extern/ipn.php

not sure why that happens on your server, but you might want to ask your host / sys admin to help resolve this

When I go to the URL it throws 500 Internal Server Error. Is there anything wrong with the "File Permissions"? What should the permissions be?

Okay, the problem I seem to have been having is this:

I'm using multi-site setup rather than single site, the module is in dev.sitename.tld rather than in the all directory as this expects.  Is there any way better than just changing 'all' to 'dev.sitename.tld'?

Is there a setting I haven't set properly somewhere?
