Wordpress role sync?
January 10, 2012, 02:11:06 pm
Hello,

Is there capabilities out of the box, when integrating CiviCRM with Wordpress, to do role synchronization the same way that CiviMember Role Sync works with Drupal?  We have a situation where there's custom roles in Wordpress that are used to control which content users see on which pages of the site.  So when members sign up in CiviCRM, the Wordpress user that is created for them needs to have the right roles assigned.

Does that work out of the box, or is further development required?  Thanks,

--Julian

Not in the 4.1 version

CiviCRM's integration with WP roles and permissioning is super limited or non-existent. We'll develop this in future releases based on community feedback / support / sponsorship.

Hi there,

Have just had this question come up for my upcoming FIRST client build with CiviCRM. So I'd like to put a +1 feature on this down the track, which naturally leads to questions about membership self-management.

Ideally we'd be able to link a Wordpress role with CiviCRM members, and then offer them a subset of self-management features or content on the front end that would only be for signed in members.

My client doesn't need to develop this now but it would be a good feature to have one day, but if there's enough momentum for something like this I would consider contributing to an MIH for extra features.

Cheers,
-Mikey

The Wordpress UAM plugin is the best I have found for managing user access. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-access-manager/  Would it be worth incorporating this into CiviCRM?

Jim:

Could you please investigte and see if you can push this forward and integrate with the Civi + WP code

Would definitely be great to expand the WP integration in 4.3

Hello There,

I've started developing a plugin in WordPress for CiviCRM Member Sync like in Drupal.

The Worflow is admin user only can  access the plugin settings page  and  add rules ie, assign a Civi Membership Type to a  WordPress role.

When a user login/logout the membership record  and membership type(assigned in the rule) for the  user is checked.

If its Active the user's role is changed to the corresponding WordPress  role.

If its not active or no membership record then the user's role is unchanged or change to some other role with lower level permissions.

The plugin development is in the initial stage. Any Feedback or Suggestions would be much appreciated.

I think it'll be useful for Wordpress/CiviCRM Users.

Thanks & Regards,
Jag.

Jag - any news on this plugin? Is there anything you can release?
Jim - I know there are new ACL functions coming up in 4.3. Are these related to UAM?

All,

I am about to setup a WP+Civi install where the customer needs to control access to WP pages based on the Civi membership. Any recommendations/experience/best practices achieving this?

Thanks.
