main menu missing

I'm familiar with Drupal but not with Joomla. I'm not sure what is causing the main CiviCRM menu to not be provided on a Joomla site. Is there a setting somewhere that controls that?

Details: A Joomla 1.5.11 had CiviCRM 2.2.6 installed and apparently running properly but wasn't being used. Site got moved to a different server. Joomla worked fine there, but when CiviCRM was examined after several it wasn't running run due to changes in absolute path. Site was moved back, and CiviCRM was running but not looked at closely. Did an upgrade to 3.0.2 without incident. Issue is that the main menu for CiviCRM is not being rendered in browser.

Here's the html that is missing the menu, with what replaces it bolded.
<div id="toolbar-box">
            <div class="t">
            <div class="t">
               <div class="t"/>
            </div>
         </div>
         <div class="m">
            <div id="toolbar" class="toolbar">
<table class="toolbar"><tbody><tr>
</tr></tbody></table>
</div>
            <div class="header icon-48-generic">
CiviCRM
</div>

            <div class="clr"/>
         </div>

         <div class="b">
            <div class="b">
               <div class="b"/>
            </div>
         </div>
        </div>

I notice that the main page for the Joomla demo has two copies of the civicrm-menu html, with only the first visible. This site has the second but not the first copy of this html.

Hi Joe,

Is the menu not available in the front-end or the back-end (administrator interface)?
Have you checked with different browsers?

Thanks for responding Rohit.

I'm only concerned about the Administrator interface at the moment: http://joomla.demo.civicrm.org/administrator/index.php?option=com_civicrm and on my site, http://mydomain.ca/administrator/index.php?option=com_civicrm

With regard to browsers, it's the same in both Firefox and Safari. I've also found that the page source for the demo and for my site is essentially the same for this, but that the DOM in Firebug is quite different. So my guess now is that there is a problem in the js somewhere in the Joomla theme.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled CiviCRM but it didn't make a difference.

if you are using the standard admin theme there shouldn't be any problem as we have it installed it on a number of machines. Is it possible for you to send us a screenshot.

Are you using the standard Joomla admin template?  If you're using one of the Joomla Praise admin templates there was a conflict that caused the menu to not appear.
Thanks to those who help create and enhance civiCRM!

I am having the same problem...  I am new to Joomla...

I noticed on the demo that civicrm uses the same administration template as Joomla.  When I installed it I expected the same thing, but it is just blue text on a white background.  I was wondering if this was something I had to set manually?  I really don't know if I can set it because the civicrm menu bar is missing.  I cannot get to anything to administer civicrm.

I believe there were issues, which I don't know in detail, between using mydomain.org and www.mydomain.org. I installed using the former, it works fine for Joomla and CiviCRM under Joomla, the latter works for Joomla, but not for CiviCRM under Joomla.

Hi Joe,

It's recommended to use only one domain for CiviCRM either mydomain.org or www.mydomain.org

I had massive problems with Joomla + CiviCRM because of this.

I have only just discovered CiviCRM and after playing with the back-end demo am well impressed, despite an installation problem (related the the database user not having temporary table creation rights, and sorted with a ticket to my ISP) it all installed fine, however I have tried two versions, the 3.1 Alpha and the 3.0.3 Stable and the menu is missng on both (separate domains, both using Joomla 1.5.15).

As a previous poster said i just have a text menu, is it a css problem? Or do i need t install an admin template for it?

Screenshot here..

Would really appreciate some help from a seasoned CiviCRM/Joomla user.

Thanks

Check your civicrm.settings.php file in components/com_civicrm and administrator/components/com_civicrm folders and see if the settings are the same.

check using www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com in your web browser to access the admin interface. it may work with one and not with the other.
