Trying to 'test-drive' my account..error
September 17, 2007, 08:01:22 am
When trying to test out our account in the CiviCRM  » Administer CiviCRM » Configure Online Contribution Pages test-drive option.. it continually defaults back to the Joomla Admin login page with 'Admin Session Expired' as the error.

Joomla 1.0.12
civicrm 1.7

Thanks

Do you have "Force SSL" enabled (I think this is in the Payment Processor setting in 1.7)? If so, and if you don't have an SSL cert installed that "may" be what's causing the problem.

It also says in the settings

For security reasons, some of the required payment processor settings are stored in your CiviCRM settings file (civicrm.settings.php). You must input these values before your can process TEST or LIVE transactions.

There's nothing in the documentation saying what/where to make these changes in the civicrm.settings.php file

The civicrm.settings.php file is commented quite heavily. You might want to check it out.

You might also want to upgrade to 1.8 (since that is the supported version), and we have made a significant number of changes in the payment processor structure in 1.8 including moving all settings to the database

In order to update to 1.8, I would have to update my Joomla to 1.0.13 ( I believe). I tried that on another site and was presented with all kinds of conflicts. Don't think 1.0.13 is compatible with all components yet.

You need 1.8 for Joomla 1.0.13 but not the other way around :)

1.8 works fine on Joomla 1.0.11 etc

Lobo

Here's my plan re: re installation. Would like your perspective.

I am re installing the core Joomla files (v1.0.12) to try and fix an error I've been having with the Installer Component. I am doing a 'clean' install so removing all files from the server and then uploading new core files (recommended because FTP doesn't always write over old files). I was thinking that I would then install (if my Installer component is working) CiviCRM v1.8 as a new install. Would this still be able to bring up all the info I currently have in the db?

Is there a better way?

A new install of CiviCRM 1.8 will give you a new "empty" DB. If you have CiviCRM info in 1.7 that you want to preserve - you'll need to follow the upgrade instructions:

I have another concern. When I make a bkup of my db, it obviously includes both the joomla as well as the civicrm data. If I then install new Joomla core files, how will I ensure that I can use the data from my current db?

thanks

When you install CiviCRM in Joomla it created new civicrm tables in same database used by Joomla.

So i guess best way is to maintain separated database for civicrm. So once you install civicrm in Joomla. You can edit civicrm.settings.php in both front-end and back-end to point to separate civicrm database.

I have just re installed Joomla v1.0.12 core files and it fixed my lonnnnng lasting problem with the Installer Component.

I am now upgrading my CiviCRM from 1.7 to 1.8

In the Upgrade for Joomla directions it says the following:

Quote
6. Install the latest CiviCRM codebase, using the Install from Directory option. Point it to the directory HOME

Do I use the Component Installer for this? What file/folder is the CiviCRM codebase?

Thanks for just clarifying the terminology.

There is no direct upgrade for Joomla. So you have to uninstall CiviCRM v1.7 and then install CiviCRM v1.8. When you uninstall 1.7 it deletes all CiviCRM tables from db.  (So backup your db)
