administrator edits contacts using a profile
March 02, 2010, 12:31:47 pm
Hello,

We have set up CiviCRM and have transfered all our members to the CiviCRM database. All is working well.
There are one member who will maintain the database and add new members as well as edit contact details. I have made a profile to add new members that works really well.
However, when a member has moved and changes need to be made the secratary does a search for that member and get's the default contact profile page. When they click on the edit button I would like them to go to the profile page that I created to edit the member in that format.
I have seen this http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Customize+Built-in%2C+Profile%2C+Contribution+and+Event+Registration+Screens and other links but am not familiar with php or javascript and wonder if there is a easy way to just link the edit button to the profile or actually bypass the whole contact profile page and only work with the profile for editing contact details.

Is that possible.
  thank you in advance.

I am using latest drupal and CiviCRM 3.1.1

I'm not quite sure if we are talking about the same thing, but there seem to be several situations after profiles are created that CiviCRM seems to not allow us to use the profiles they way we would like.

(1) Create a new profile that makes editing and new contact creation easier - here's the hack to actually create a link in the system to use the profile:

Note: CiviCRM 3.1.3 (not sure when this started) has a wonderful way to change the menu for new contacts to use a profile (any url).  The hack for edit contacts may still be necessary.

(2) Create a new profile to allow non-user contacts to update some of their information.  Apparently view fields do not show up on edit profile - hope that a hack is possible:

(3) This is not really the same thing, but seems like everyone with contacts that are not users will want to modify the registration profile to keep from blanking out the contact record fields:
